The natural lake, covering 3.8 hectares and created in the 19th century by Grand Duke Karl-August, is approximately 1.9 meters deep and invites you to enjoy fishing and boating (boat rental available on site). Around the lake, an educational nature trail has been established, offering insights into the habitat in and around the water. Our campsite is located in a forested area. The legendary Wartburg Castle and the historic city of Eisenach, known for Luther and Bach, are only about 10 kilometers away.
The campsite covers an area of approximately 10 hectares surrounding the natural lake “Altenberger See” in the heart of the western Thuringian Forest. It is open all year round (limited services during November holiday closure). There are 50 tourist pitches available for caravans and motorhomes, and 30 pitches for tents. The permanent camping area includes 80 pitches. The campsite is recommended by ADAC, DCC, ANWB, ACSI, Kosmoswijzer, and the European Camping and Caravanning guides. Sanitary facilities include separate wash/shower rooms for men and women, each with 6 showers and 7 toilets. A washing machine, dryer, and dishwashing area are also available. For self-catering, there is a mini-market offering fresh or filled rolls, sweet pastries, various teas and coffee specialties, as well as everyday essentials. Seating with a unique view of Altenberger Lake is available. The shop is open daily from May to the end of October. Our bread roll service is also available during the off-season. Not in the mood to cook? No problem – enjoy a delicious meal at our “Seeblick” restaurant. Our stone sculptures and the mud play area by the lake are popular meeting spots for our younger guests. A volleyball court and table tennis tables are available free of charge. Rainy weather? How about a relaxing visit to our on-site sauna? To keep your own “home” cozy and warm, gas bottle exchange is available directly at the campsite.
Rent our sauna for up to 4 people – or enjoy it alone. We’re happy to reserve the cozy sauna area just for you, so you can relax and unwind in peace. For your private wellness moments, our Finnish sauna is available. The flat rate is €20.00.

Our restaurant "Seeblick" is located at Campingpark Eisenach. Two dining rooms and a beer garden are available, each with 40 seats. Whether in the conservatory or on the terrace – enjoy regional cuisine and a freshly tapped beer to end your evening. We’re happy to host your family celebrations or club evenings. For our biker friends, we’ve created a special route – Route 99. This tour through the Thuringian Forest is a highlight even for experienced riders, as it includes parts of the legendary Wartburg Rally and the Rennsteig Hill Climb (through forested terrain with elevation and many curves). Along the way, there’s plenty to see – and many chances to enjoy a delicious Thuringian bratwurst :-)
